This course provides a practical program centered on fieldwork-based design exercises to produce environment and heritage designers. Students acquire the expertise to design spaces including buildings and landscape as environment and heritage, and to design mechanisms that will tie these environment and heritage spaces to the future. Such integrated environment and heritage design goes beyond the traditional frameworks of architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning and archaeology.

Therefore, the course provides research and education opportunities based on an understanding of spatial and temporal contexts for all students. Furthermore, students in the Environment and Heritage Theory Division acquire the ability to uncover and assess the value of environments and heritage. Students in the Environment and Heritage Management Division learn how to conserve and make use of that value, while students in the Environment Design Technology Division acquire the ability to use technology to improve and create such value.
